| 内容記述 | As the age of inpatients increase the incidence of delirium during hospitalization and after operation increase. When delirium develops in elderly patients, nurses experience the difficulty of not being able to effect a safe treatment of the patients. Nurses face the further difficulty that the problems arising from dilemmas posed by the physical restraints imposed by a precaution against potential accidents indirectly arising due to the delirium. The background to the difficulties faced by nurses include a lack of knowledge of and skills in the care for delirium patients, the absence of provisions for physical restraints in the general hospital setting, and changes in the nature of the duties necessary for acute care in hospitals. To resolve these issues, there are efforts to establish guidelines for physical restraints in the Japanese nursing association and other professional organizations. In addition, the findings suggest the necessity to provide nursing staff with training in and development of knowledge and skills to address the issues of delirium care by clinical nurse specialists, as well as intervention in dealing with delirium patients by interdisciplinary teams. | |||||||
