Peak torque (PT) during isometric contraction in knee flexor and extensor had no significant correlation with the electro-mechanical delay (EMD), a time from onset of torque to PT (PTT)and a time from a trigger of excise demand signal to PT (TPTT). EMD was no significant correlation with PTT, TPTT, a maximum torque differential (MD), and a time from the onset of torque to MD. We concluded that EMD is not an indicator of muscular power but an indicator of muscular contractile velocity. EMDs of sprinters and jumpers were statistically shorter than that of long distance runners.
