内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 During the country wide epidemics of influenza in the winter 1952-1953, Otaru City was likewise exposed to a severe attack. During the said epidemic we conducted the epidemiological investigations on approximately 10,000 citizens including primary school pupils, high school students and adults in various occupations by a survey with "householder schedules.", and then concurrently studied the reliability of the clinical symptoms as described in the schedules compared with that of the influenza patients diagnosed serologically in the same epidemic. Results of these examinations are as follows : (1) It is shown that the outbreak of clinically typical cases are followed by a consi-derable number of atypical cases which flared up simultaneously, but the trends of daily incidences of cases of both groups were closely related to each other. 2) Clinical symptoms of typical and atypical cases as recognized in our survey are individually different from case to case, but the percentage frequencies of the incidences of each constitutional and local symptoms of both case groups are closely similar to each other. 3) In Otaru City influenza-like patients seemed to have appeared sporadically from the middle of December of 1952. It became an epidemic from first ten days of January of the following year and reached its maximum about the 15 of that month; then the influenza patients diminished rapidly and the epidemic subsided at the end of the same month. 4) The morbidity of this epidemic is relatively low in the younger and it increases with the rise of ages, but it decreases somewhat again as it reaches the adult stage. There are inverse correlations between morbidity and estimated serum antibody titers before the epidemic. 5) The interrelations between the epidemic and meteorological conditions are examined and it was found that the influenza epidemic of Otaru City occurred with the definite rise of daily mean temperatures in spite of the diminishing of the time of daylight, and further with the remarkable increases of the absolute humidities.
