Many professions have been promoted patient safety during these decades. This paper tries to separate patient safety promotion into three periods. For the first period, in 2000’s, patient safety promoted as risk management. For the second period, in the first half of 2010’s, not only technical skills but also nontechnical skills, especially communication skills, have been regarded as profitable methods. And for the third period, in the last half of 2010’s, new theories such as high reliability organization and resilience engineering have been introduced into patient safety promotion.
